# AI

The whiteboard interface described below is planned and not yet shipped. There is no `vela generate ai` command today.

### Available today

AI design is a `--ai` option on the individual generators. Pass a natural-language description _instead of_ a model name and fields:

$ vela generate schema --ai "a cooking recipe with ingredients and amounts"
$ vela generate form --ai "a feedback form with a 1-5 star rating"
$ vela generate scaffold --ai "listing info for hotels"
```

For forms and scaffolds this runs in two stages — first the schema, then the layout — with a chance to refine each before anything is written. See [schema](/generate/schema), [form](/generate/form) and [scaffold](/generate/scaffold).

The chosen layout is saved as `data/ai-form-layouts/<model>.json`, or as `.vela/ai-form-layouts/<model>.json` in a project without a backend.

Requires an account and a linked project — run [`vela login`](/account/login) and [`vela link`](/link) first.

A local whiteboard interface for developing the database schema iteratively: drag models, forms and scaffolding onto a canvas, refine the schema with a prompt, and commit the result to generate the files and migrations in one step.
