# Dev

Start the development server.

### Syntax

```
$ vela dev
```

This will start the development server and the database. The server will be available at `http://localhost:5173` and the admin interface at `http://localhost:5173/admin`. In a project without a backend, such as one from the [static template](/static), only the development server starts.

With a backend, every start also copies `site.name` from [`src/lib/site.ts`](/cli/project-structure) into PocketBase's application name, and the development server's address into its app URL, so the emails PocketBase sends in development carry the right name and links.

### Options

- `--open [path]` - Open the app in a browser once the server is ready
- `--host [host]` - Expose the server on the network
- `--port <port>` - Port to listen on
- `--strictPort` - Exit if the port is already in use instead of taking the next one
- `--cors` - Enable CORS
- `--force` - Re-bundle dependencies, ignoring the optimizer cache
- `--all-sql` - Also print the auth lookup PocketBase runs on every request

$ vela dev --open --port 3000
```

PocketBase prints every SQL query it runs. `vela dev` leaves out one of them: the `_superusers` lookup that verifies the superuser token on each request, which would otherwise bury everything else. Pass `--all-sql` to see it too.
